Diapers Schmipers

When we (I) began to boldly embark on the journey of potty training my sweet yet spirited 2 year old, I knew I had my work cut out for me. They say it takes 72 hours and 72 dollars to get the job done. 72 hours to train the child, 72 dollars to have your carpets cleaned. (get ready mothers of potty trainees to be) Well, while I prepared for the worst of all worsts, I am very excited to announce that spirited child, miss Leenoos, does her thing on the potty with ease. Ease? Can it be so? It is. You can close your mouth now.

But how you say? I picked a Thursday morning, put off everything for the day, got out the potty chairs we have had donated to us, turned the kitchen into a Bright Music dance hall, and we were off. First, we taught baby LuLu (her doll that pees) how to do it. Lena seems to be very motherly, either that or she likes to be in charge (same thing I guess), so this tactic obviously worked wonders for her. I guess it might have also been the fact that she got to trounce an entire pack of dog dog nana for each successful potty go.

From then it was monkey see monkey do. I pumped her full to the brim of juice, and she peed and the like, on demand each time she needed to go right into the potty. She then got to satisfy her sweet tooth, and I got to go a whole day for the first time without changing a toddler's diaper.

Heavenly.

So, while she does wonderfully at home with no underwear on, outings are another story. She has a severe fear of public toilets, and pitches a royal fit of death when I try to take her when we're out and about. So, I suppose it's a work in progress, but I am loving it. I only wish I would have had the guts to try earlier. Potty training a nine month old isn't too ambitious, is it?

Anyway, if you see Lena, be sure to congratulate her on this newly accomplished society-accepted task. We sure are proud of her.

*For the record, I'd just like to add, you can congratulate me as well. I'm feeling pretty good about acquiring the ability to teach another human being how to put their waste into a toilet. You can't learn that in law school. Booyah.

Love you,

You are awesome Kelly! I really hope Tay picks it up as quickly as Carter did. We did the potty training in a day way as well with him. My kids don't like public toilets either...I think that is just how it goes for awhile.

That is so nice. Congrats to you both! I put Kade on the toilet starting at 6 months when I could tell he was about to go, you know, #2. Of course I don't know yet, but it seems to have helped. He loves the toilet (sitting on it, flushing it, etc.) I'm just glad he's not scared of it. I haven't gotten up the nerve to try potty training though. My neighbor potty trained her little boy at 16 months. Maybe next month I will give it a whirl (maybe not, we'll see)
