THE (Accentuate the "E") First Day of Kindergarten

Well, here they are, the pictures of the much anticipated, first ever day of school:
hair combed, new clothes, backpack full of tissue boxes and markers and glue sticks.
A kindergartener if I ever saw one.
After the photo shoot (and she jumped off the porch 30 more times)we were off!
I spent 15 minutes that first day in her classroom as instructed by her teacher, "Mr. D". That's what he's called. We like Mr. D. and long before we found out Lena had him for her teacher, Jeff was in a soccer league with him. It never hurts to personally know your child's teacher, that's what I always say. He is handsome and short and has been teaching for 13 years. I approve. Not that you have to be short and handsome for approval, but you know.

When he announced it was time for parents to leave I kissed her head and walk-sprinted towards the door. I told her to sit by the reading area and wave to me out the window when I walked by:
Lucky for me I had my camera.
If you didn't know Lena, this photo would be heartbreaking.
Lucky for me, I know her.
That sweet face is all too familar.
I thought I would be the one to cry.

She came home (on the bus!) with this nestled in her bag:

She's totally fine. Totally fine. And so am I.
Totally fine.
(Did I make that sound convincing?)

i've said it a million times, but i wish we were neighbors! so we could sit together and eat something sugary and commiserate over our girls going to kindergarten. (it pains me every day!)
