Homegrown Wheatgrass

Us Vaiseys decided to grown our own wheatgrass. Jeff and I are always trying to make sure our kiddos have lots and lots of helpings of fresh fruits and veggies. What better way to give them a mega boost of nutritious goodness than through daily helpings of wheatgrass juice.

Wanna give it a whirl?

Step One: soak your wheat seeds for about 10-12 hours in a dark place (I used a mason jar covered with cheese cloth.)

Step Two: Drain the seeds (you can choose to let them sprout before spreading over soil, but I just skip this step and spread the drained seeds thickly over soil 1-2 inches deep right away.)

Step Three: Sprinkle the seeds in almost any type of porous surface. I used some run of the mill soil. (Porous surfaces allow you to grow wheat grass because they enable the roots to attach and hold your wheatgrass to grow upright.)

Step Three: Keep the seeds wet over indirect sunlight and above 60 Fahrenheit degrees and you will see them grow about 8 inches tall in a matter of 7 to 10 days.

Step Four: Cut and you and yours can enjoy all the glorious benefits (to get an idea of what the heck is in this stuff: read here.)

We will juice our grass and either shoot down two ounces straight because we are tough and cool like that (it pretty much tastes like lawn) or we'll add it to smoothies. Mmmm.

Don't knock it before you try it. Your bod will pay you many thanks. I can hear mine thanking me already.

I had a college roommate who grew wheat grass in our bedroom. Besides drinking it, she would bathe in it.
